Medical Marijuana: History to Present
Description
Medical marijuana has a diverse history that may surprise many. This course covers the social, medical, and economic history of marijuana, as well as the current understanding of its legality in the United States. It also reviews the basics of the plant’s biology, including how hemp is different from marijuana, the human endocannabinoid system, modes of delivery of marijuana, the time to onset, and the duration of effects. It details the difference of medical marijuana compared to traditional healthcare regarding how to obtain marijuana, how it is delivered, and how to best explain these concepts to the patient. We investigate the unintended consequences of marijuana, as well as great additional resources for further study.

Course Content
Instructor
Tammy Guns, MHA, MA, BBA, BA, and her business partner, Kelly Morgan, have been working with physicians who recommend medical marijuana in all states that have legalized marijuana in some capacity. Tammy Guns has extensive corporate industry experience in healthcare, auditing, business valuations, business development and consulting for the past 25 years. Her corporate experience was specializing in the areas of finance, budgeting, operations, physician recruitment, and physician practice management. Tammy has a Master’s of Arts in Health Services Administration, a Master’s of Accountancy, a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accounting and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education. Tammy graduated from the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin.
