What You'll Learn
- Summarize the current state of legal status and research on fecal microbial transplants (FMT)
- Understand the state of research of FMT for irritable bowel syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, antibiotic associated diarrhea/dysbiosis, ulcerative colitis, Clostridium difficile infection and for autism.
Description
Join us for a deep dive into the research and world of fecal microbial transplants (FMT). FMT is defined as taking the gut bacteria from a healthy donor and reintroducing it into a patient, allowing the patient’s gut to repopulate with healthy gut bacteria that they might have lost. FMT is gaining in popularity throughout the world and there has been a wave of therapeutic research published on the topic showing extraordinary benefits for certain conditions.
In this course, Dr. Joshua Goldenberg begins with a broad overview of FMT both from a technical perspective and a legal and research perspective. After this introduction, he analyzes the key research studies on FMT covering its use for irritable bowel syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, antibiotic associated diarrhea/dysbiosis, ulcerative colitis, Clostridium difficile infection, and autism.
This Course Is For You If You
- You are in primary care, work in a general practice, or have patients with gastrointestinal issues, or
- You want to know how to help your patients with FMT as a potential therapeutic therapy
