Morgellons Disease: Investigation of the Mysterious Pathology
Morgellons Disease: Investigation of the Mysterious Pathology
Description
Morgellons Disease is still a very controversial topic and the etiology is still considered unexplained by the CDC or most patients are diagnosed as being delusional by medical professionals despite current and ongoing research demonstrating pathological processes and infectious origins. Current research into filament composition and pathological features of dermatological symptoms is review. Clinical and veterinary research has identified a relationship with tick-borne pathogens including Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme Disease, as well as other Relapsing Fever strains of Borrelia and co-infections and opportunistic pathogens such as Bartonella species and Helicobacter pylori. This presentation will cover the history of Morgellons Disease as well as a overview of the controversy of infectious vs. delusional etiologies. After completing this course, physicians should have a clear case definition and clinical findings consistent with a diagnosis as well as a general understanding of how to approach treatment these complex patients.
