Description
Hydrolats are a magnificent complement to aromatic medicine! However, there is often confusion with naming, definitions, and quality control. Despite these challenges, as a professional who is using hydrolats in your practice or in a product, you are held to a higher standard.
In this course, Ann Harman shares her decades of experience. She will share how to become an educated consumer and not fall for marketing hype. Ann will also overview some of the responsibilities that come with handling a perishable product and how to give back to the community.
If you want to know how to find a quality supplier for your hydrolats, then this course is for you!
Please Note: this course was originally recorded for an event called AromaSummit; as such, you may hear mention of this event during the presentation.
Course Content
Instructor
Ann Harman is a distiller, organic farmer, amateur botanist and lover of plants. She lives and teaches in Washington state. Ann is an author, teacher and international speaker.
Ann began her journey with plants at an early age when she started studying the native plants and their medicinal uses in high school. She went on to study botany, and ethnobotany at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Ann fell in love with distillation when she was introduced to it at a United Plant Saver’s retreat in the late 1990’s. She bought her first still after that retreat and has been distilling ever since. Ann spent many years honing her craft and in 2005 she founded Morning Myst Botanics, a company dedicated to wholesaling hydrosols distilled as a primary product. She sold the business eight years later so she could concentrate on her research of hydrosols that had become her passion.
Ann founded the Circle H Institute, a website dedicated to education, researching and promoting hydrosols. It is this website where she houses the data on hydrosols that she has been collecting for more than 25 years. She loves to share her research through the website and also through unique hands on workshops that focus on distillations. These workshops bring experts from around the globe to Spokane, WA for engaging, quality hands on experiences in the art of distillation.
In 2015 Ann self-published her first book, Harvest to Hydrosol, this book was a compilation of her workshops and shared what she has learned along the way in her distillation journey. She has found that the learning never stops and is currently writing a second edition to include what she has learned since she wrote the first edition.
When she is not distilling or gardening she enjoys riding her horses, painting and appreciating the nature that surrounds her.
