Description
In this course, Dr. Brice Thompson provides a comprehensive review of the basic principles of psychopharmacology, its applications in clinical practice, and the management of common psychiatric disorders using psychopharmacologic agents.
He also covers essential topics such as neurotransmitters and receptors, mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, drug interactions, and adverse effects. In addition, participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the major pharmacological treatments for major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Dr. Thompson also addresses special considerations in psychopharmacology, such as treatment in geriatric, pediatric, pregnant, and breastfeeding patients.
By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to make informed decisions regarding the prescription and management of psychopharmacologic agents in a diverse patient population, improving patient outcomes and overall quality of care.
Course Content
Instructor
Brice is a Naturopathic Doctor and Researcher who loves immunology, microbiology, herbs, and pharmaceuticals. He’s been involved in several research projects ranging from tuberculosis to obesity to microbiome metabolomics. He’s also been a contributing author in textbooks related to both natural medicine and pharmaceutics.
After graduating from the National University of Natural Medicine in 2018, he pursued additional research training at the University of Washington by completing a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Department of Pharmaceutics. He is currently finishing another graduate degree in Pharmaceutics at UW, where his research has primarily focused on characterizing natural product-drug interactions.
