Morgellons Disease is still a very controversial topic and the etiology is still considered unexplained by the CDC or most patients are diagnosed as being delusional by medical professionals despite current and ongoing research demonstrating pathological processes and infectious origins. Current research into filament composition and pathological features of dermatological symptoms is review. Clinical and veterinary research has identified a relationship with tick-borne pathogens including Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme Disease, as well as other Relapsing Fever strains of Borrelia and co-infections and opportunistic pathogens such as Bartonella species and Helicobacter pylori. This presentation will cover the history of Morgellons Disease as well as a overview of the controversy of infectious vs. delusional etiologies. After completing this course, physicians should have a clear case definition and clinical findings consistent with a diagnosis as well as a general understanding of how to approach treatment these complex patients.

Instructor

Dr. Courtney Day is a Oregon State licensed Naturopathic Doctor. Dr. Day earned her degree in Naturopathic Medicine from National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She earned her bachelors of science degree in Microbiology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Dr. Day has a special interest in understanding the genetic susceptibility, environmental influences and pathogenic factors that contribute to illness. Dr. Day applies her clinical training in naturopathic medicine and knowledge of microbiology, genetics and biochemistry in understanding the complexity of chronic disease. She is especially interested in studying holistic, natural and alternative therapies for bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic infections, especially in regards to Lyme Disease Complex. Dr. Day has additional training from the Klinghardt Academy and has attended professional conferences on Lyme Disease, methylation and clinical genomics.
